Does anyone know who the model in those Aeon bus posters is? I think he must be a famous actor because the girl and the elderly man in those ads with him are famous. I don't know his name, though.Tell me his name if you know it. I am trying to watch movies in Japanese to improve my Japanese and I fall asleep if there are no handsome people in the movie. (English subtitles in Japanese movies are rare and without them, I only understand about 30% of what people are saying... there has to be something to keep my attention if the storyline is beyond my grasp) I think this man in the posters could help me pay attention to a boring movie. Maybe.
I forget if I've told you this, but in case you wonder, my favorite Japanese actor is Satoshi Tsumabuki (妻夫木聡) and my favorite Japanese actress is Aoi Yuu (蒼井 優). Sorry to nerd out on you guys, but I also think that Hiro Mizushima has a face like an angel. My roommate loves him.

I'm all about Asano Tadanobu but that is one angelic face.
平岡祐太
yuta hiraoka?
Hi...
I've been reading your blog since about 3 days and I've got to say it's really eye-opening. Being a Canadian high school student with intentions to go to Japan in the near future, I've got to say that your insight is greatly valued. Thanks for taking the time and effort to make this blog, it has really motivated me..
BTW.. The イーオン guy is Yuta Hiroaka (平岡祐太).. ( go to...) He acted in the drama First Kiss/ファースト・キス, which I highly reccomend you watch.
Good luck with studying for your JLPT. I saw on the White Rabbit website that they have a giant Kanji chart.. maybe it would help?
Anyways, thanks for your effort! がんばって!

His name is Hiraoka Yuuta! He is one of my favorite celebs in japan :D He is a model and actor and has done quite a few dramas and movies by now so you should check him out! this is a good link: http://wiki.d-addicts.com/Hiraoka_Yuta By the way i love reading your blog! I came back from study abroad in tokyo about 6 months ago so because i can't be there anymore i like to read about other peoples lives abroad haha
I don't think I know the guy in the Aeon ad. But he looks familiar...is there a bigger picture of him somewhere? In the first picture he looks like Jun Matsumoto, but not in the second. Sorry :/
I love Hiro Mizushima too!
The picture is too small so I can't tell if I know who the model is or not. I agree, he's cute.
Have you checked out the films of Hirokazu Koreeda? His films aren't really filled with handsome men, but he seems like a director you'd like, (based solely on reading your blog posts). I think you could easily watch Dare mo Shiranai and catch the jist of it even with no subtitles. The story is easy to pick up on and the lead, a twelve year old boy, gives a really wonderful, effective performance.
On the fluffier side, there's always Nana. I feel a little guilty admitting that I actually enjoyed this movie, as it's really kind of overly sentimental/angsty and can be a bit cheesy. The best part about it is that Hiroki Narimiya is in it and he's totally cute!
Cha no Aji is super a fun film. It's really quirky and offbeat and it features Tadanobu Asano, who I personally love. Definitely an attention keeper.
I've never seen Hachimitsu to Clover, but I think some of the actors you said you like are in it, so you might want to check that movie out, too.
Hi and thanks for your great blog, I'm a regular reader! I don't know about that dude on the ad but you obviously know Shunsuke Daitô, Teppei Koike, Jô Odagiri, Hidetoshi Nishijima, of course Takeshi Kaneshiro. Satoshi Tsumabuki is so cute! I think watching Japanese movies is a fun way to learn the language!
Asano Tadanobu is cool. I liked the Uniqlo ads with Chloe Sevigny. But I do not find him handsome in any way. That's good. If everyone had the same "type" there would be too many busy people and a lot of lonely people.
xox
How did you guys know his name???
How did you recognize a blurry photograph the size of my thumbnail?? You guys are all genius nerds. I mean that in a very good way. Thanks for the help. Now I can say, "Yuta Hiraoka is handsome." instead of just, "The guy in those Aeon bus posters with the famous lady and the old man is handsome."
Thanks to the anon poster!!
I love Dare mo Shiranai and though they had a few cheesy moments, I also liked Cha no Aji and Hachimitsu to Clover.
I disagree with you about Nana...I hate Nana. But I like Hiroki Narimiya. He's not my type if I look at his picture (I don't like guys with plucked eyebrows or fake rips in their jeans or Japanese guys with dyed blonde hair) but when I see him in a movie, his behavior makes him more attractive. I watched "Orange Days" and saw him kiss some girl in the drama and since then I have thought he was attractive.
PLEASE keep recommending things to me, whoever you are.
ntYou're welcome!
Since you liked Dare mo Shiranai, you might like some of Koreeda's other films as well, if you haven't already seen them. I highly recommend Wonderful Life and Maboroshi no Hikari.
If you are familiar with the stories of Haruki Murakami you might enjoy a short film called Tony Takitani, based on his short story of the same name.
A couple of things I haven't seen, but really want to see:
Michel Gondry recently did a short film for a collection called Tokyo! Another French director and a Korean director also contributed 40 minute short films to the collection. If you like Gondry, it's probably worth checking out.
Kamome Shokudo looks like it might be good. Of course I'm basing this solely on the the fact that it looks stylish. It's about three middle aged Japanese women who move to Finland to open up an onigiri restaurant but have trouble getting customers into their store. I like the clothes and the design of the restaurant. It looks cute and I think the DVD has english subtitles.
Sorry for the long comment!
I've never heard of either of those guys! I've been watching lots of dramas lately to try and get used to the sound of conversational Japanese, but so far all I'm used to is hearing corny lines like "Riiko's smile is my happiness," and "A host's duty is to heal a woman's heart." :/
Having said that, I'm going to be checking out stuff with these two in it now...
Have you seen much of Hayami Mokomichi? He's my ultimate man (aside from my partner, naturally).
hey
i am a regular reader of your blog, and if i want send you an email, how to find your email address?
@ Okusan, wrote wrote, "you obviously know Shunsuke Daitô, Teppei Koike, Jô Odagiri, Hidetoshi Nishijima, of course Takeshi Kaneshiro."
I don't know any of those people.
I'm not really into Japanese dramas or those "Idol" types or Johnny's talent. I'm just trying to learn more Japanese. But if someone happens to be attractive, that hold my attention while I study. Ha.
Really though, I have no idea who most Japanese actors are.
Kamome Shokudo is the movie I watched on Xmas eve with my roommates! I wrote about it, too. We have similar taste, don't we?
The Gondry movie has been recommended to me, though I haven't seen it. I want to!
And I loved Tony Takitani. One of the few examples of a movie that I enjoyed more than the book (story).
If you want to email me, just leave me a comment on here. It will go to my email!

there! (: haha! There's some great dramas he has been in, and I think you have alot of suggestions here XD Have fun! (:
(Check out Bloody Monday. Hiroki Narimiya acts in it and it's really really good. Oh and for Hiro, There's this new drama showing now.. Something about a butler? yeaaa. That sounded intresting too. (: )
Haha...our tastes might be too similar! My recommendations aren't all that helpful if you're already seen them all...but yes, you should check out the Gondry film! I haven't been able to track down a copy of it for myself.
I'll have go back and find your post on Kamome Shokudo, I'm very curious about it.
He is very handsome! No wonder you have a crush. :)
Hi Julie,
You probably already know the site, but if not, try going to www.mysoju.com. They post links to lots of Japanese dramas and movies; some older, some brand new! (They usually post a subtitled episode about a week after it airs on Japanese tv.) And kindly fans have subtitled the shows and movies.
I suggest also, have your friend Atsushi reenact Japanese shows. He is handsome enough to hold your attention!
Takeshi Kaneshiro is my absolute number one favourite Asian actor/man! He's a bit older than these other hunks which is good :) (born 1973) He's half Taiwanese and in my opinion maybe the best-looking man in the world ;) I had a pleasure to see him from a very close distance at TIFF 2008 (along charmant Tony Leung) and I fell in love ;D

Of his newest movies Suwîto rein: Shinigami no seido (Sweet Rain) was quite amusing.
I find the most Japanese drama movies corny and over-sentimental and too emotional. But sometimes they are fun.
Kamome Shokudo is just lovely and I'm glad other people than Japanese and Finnish find it charming, too! I'm from Finland, and the restaurant of the shooting-place was SO full of Japanese tourists after the movie ;) Sad thing is that the older male actor, Markku Peltola, died about a year ago.
I love Yuta Hiraoka & Hiro Mizushima! haha~
Hiraoka was in "Swing Girls" which is definitely my favorite Japanese film....while Mizushima is just cute. He captured my attention in "Gokusen 3", the only dorama I watched during 2008. I'm not big into dorama and such anymore.
Yeah, so you should watch "Swing Girls". It's by the same people who did "Waterboys"!
